6/24-7/7 Catching Our Own Shadows: Photography Camp for Native American Teens
Posted:
Updated:
The 2012 Journeys camp theme is “Catching Our Own Shadows”. Students will be introduced to the world
of photography that has defined and documented Native American history and culture. Workshops with renowned Native American photographer Larry McNeil will give students a hands-on approach to learning both traditional and digital photographic processes.
They will begin with film cameras, and learn how to shoot, develop, and print traditionally. Then they will explore the manipulation, correction and printing of images using a digital format. Covering these basic processes will allow students to gain a better understanding of photography from which they can enhance their skill set to develop their stylistic viewpoint.
Participants should expect each day to begin at 8am and end at 8 pm, and some field trip days may last longer. Students will be accompanied by guides/ chaperones throughout the program’s duration. The selected teens will have the opportunity to explore the life of a college art student as they participate in intensive art workshops in the well equipped studios of Oregon College of Art and Craft.Daily activities include lively group meals, field trips to local art museums and galleries and visits to local book and art supply stories.
Who is eligible: Teens ages 15-19 who can show an interest and talent in art and culture. Preference is for

Where it will happen: Workshops and artist presentations will occur on the campus of Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, OR.
